Layer Options Available in UtiliSync

In this article, you will learn about the different Layer types that are available to you in the UtiliSync apps.

UtiliSync Layer

The benefit of a UtiliSync layer is that it won't require users to sign in with an ArcGIS account. Users can submit forms attached to points on their map. However, UtiliSync layers cannot have lines or polygons.

811 Ticket Layer

An 811 Ticket Layer is a UtiliSync Layer and all data is saved on UtiliSync servers, it is not connected to ArcGIS. Only one 811 Ticket layer can be added to a map, so you will need multiple maps, each with one ticket layer, if you want more than one ticket layer.

ArcGIS Feature Service Layer

Most organizations use editable Feature Service Layers so that forms can be attached. A Feature Service Layer can be configured as either editable or view only. Each layer has to be named and added separately into UtiliSync, even if they are added to the same map.

ArcGIS Map Service Layer

Map Service Layers allow all layers to be added at once to a map. Map Service Layers are view-only layers, they cannot be edited and forms cannot be attached to this type of layer. Multiple sublayers with forms attached can be added (such as Water: with sewer lines, fire hydrants, etc. and Electric: with powerlines, stations, etc.). If only one layer of a map service is desired, it must be configured that way.

ArcGIS Tile Service Layer

Tile Service Layers are useful for custom basemaps. This type of map sits underneath all of the points, polygons, and lines on a layer. We only support one type called a map service.
